Please meet Ms. Martha Ballard. I am so pleased with this lovely ladye. Black bears are abundant, here in Vermont and I thought it only fitting to create a few with my needle & thread.
Martha's head is punched with wonderful Moire' wool thread. I've then hand stitched it to a mohair head of the same shape & size. She has tiny, glass shoe-button eyes & her chubby bear body is made from aged linen and stuffed with fine cedar sawdust and wool roving. She wears a lovely dress made from reproduction fabric in a beautiful dark blue with tiny cream and red flowers. Her bloomers are made from linen fabric. Around her neck she wears a beautiful vintage silk cream ribbon. Her pouch is made from aged flannel with a jute strap and I've attached a wonderful bit of muslin featuring an original, and oh so beautiful, pen & ink illustration by Michelle Palmer of a honey bee. Her pouch is filled with wonderful dried Calendula leaves.
Martha measures 15" tall and comes with a bit of silk ribbon on the back of her head for hanging. She can also sit, if you wish, propped up against something.
She will come to you with one of my hand made fabric and ink tags.
